Merry Christmas, Linda!

This year, I have my sister Linda's name for Christmas.  I remembered that she liked Dad's Roorkee chair, so I thought it might be fun to make one for her.
This chair is named the Satan Santa Pope Chair.  I named it that because it should look appropriate with any of those three perched on it.
It is made with bright red leather (I've been telling people the color's official name is, "Holy Shit! Red"), and the wooden bits are charred ash with a paste wax finish.
As an extra bit of experimentation with this chair, I decided to do the whole thing using only my hand tools, and no lathe.

Linda's chair next to mine.
I had some real fun building this chair, and barely got it in the mail in time for her to open it.  Due to travel plans, she should get to open the package today, the 23rd of December.  If not, sorry for ruining the surprise!
I'll do another post soon with some shots of the construction of this chair.  I found out some really cool things doing this one!

  2. Hi Brian,
wow. That one is looking great. The combination of colors took away the mustiness from the origin design (not yours, but in general).
I'm pretty interested how you have done it without lathe work. As far as I can see from the pictures you have substituted such parts by octagons, right?
Merry X-Mas to you and your family.
    Cheers,
    Stefan

    1. Hi Stefan, Thanks!

I have some posts coming detailing this build. For the legs I mostly used a drawknife, a spokeshave, and a chisel. Once I put the red leather on it, the legs seem not to draw too much attention.

    1. Thanks, Bob! I'm sure it won't go with her decor. She'll just have to get new decor!
