But since so much time has usually been put into any project, people tend to "play safe". So this information can hopefully help someone.Jonas Jensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07787393233185454227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5591297260116621731.post-67843990987812913422013-03-26T13:28:48.049+01:002013-03-26T13:28:48.049+01:00Thanks, Jonas!
Everytime I use a piece of leftove...Thanks, Jonas!

Everytime I use a piece of leftover stock for the cross batten I wonder if that is going to be strong enough. It always is. I think that as woodworkers we like to think in terms of "good enough" being complete overkill.

Stronger is always better, but I can see many applications where a cross batten the same thickness as the panel would be a great advantage.Brian Evehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04252174035715635674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5591297260116621731.post-35206864842845206652013-03-26T12:40:40.526+01:002013-03-26T12:40:40.526+01:00This is a really informative experiment.
I am ama...This is a really informative experiment.
I am amazed that the batten doesn't need to be thicker than the top itself.

I think that wood movement is one of the most difficult things about woodworking generally, because one small drop of glue the wrong place duting some early part of assembly, can have disastrous consequences later on once the piece is finished.
Thanks for doing and documenting this test experiement.
JonasJonas Jensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07787393233185454227noreply@blogger.com
